Boxwood knife handles

Always used for the production of the simplest and most rural knives, rarely do we encounter finer ones with engraved or sculpted handles, boxwood is today destined for sophisticated productions intended for those looking for a poetic, humble handle for their knife, yet beautiful in its elegant simplicity, with an ancient taste, but incredibly capable of fitting into modern contexts.

What increases the charm of this material is the natural variation of its color over time, from the initial yellow-orange towards an increasingly intense and warmer hazelnut-brown. Due to the limited quantity available and the small size of the trees that can be found, boxwood only allows knives with small handles to be made. Boxwood is also available in large planks, which however belong to different species from the beautiful Italian Buxus Sempervirens: such as the Buxus Balearica which grows in the Hispanic area, but whose appearance, due to color and texture, has little to do with our local Buxus. In particular, the boxwood of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines shows a yellow-orange shade with light hazelnut spots, knots and small cracks that are unmatched by any other boxwood.

For large handles it is necessary to use boxwood of Brazilian origin, whose appearance is quite similar to Italian boxwood.
